LOCAMS consists of two 16 camera stations. One station will be on Lowell Observatory’s main campus on Mars Hill outside of downtown Flagstaff, the other will be at our Discovery Channel Telescope site about 40 miles south of town.
One of the motivating factors in the design of LOCAMS has been to use entirely off the shelf components that are relatively low cost. To do this we adopt a lot of heritage from Jim Wray’s CAMS station in Forresthill, CA. In the end we aim to build full stations with control computers for around $3000 each.
When we have completed design and assembly of our stations we will include here a description of the hardware components and design specs. This will include a full shopping list for anyone interested in building their own fireball camera station.
